Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. You can build routines, log workouts, track body weight, and see your progress without an account. Sign in with Apple to use the AI coach and the social features.
How do I sign in?
Open the Social tab and tap Continue with Apple. Sign in with Apple is the only sign-in. There is no password to make, and we never ask you for an API key. You can choose "Hide My Email", and Apple then gives us a relay address instead of your own.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings > Account & Social > Delete Account, tap Continue, then sign in with Apple again to confirm. Your server data is deleted within 30 days. Workouts on your device, in your iCloud, and in Apple Health stay under your control. If you cannot use the app, email support@trainer.fyi from the email address on your account. The full steps are in the Privacy Policy.
Why is there a server backup, and how do I turn it off?
When you sign in, Trainer keeps a private copy of your training on our servers. It brings your data back after a reinstall or on a new iPhone. The copy holds your workouts, sets, routines, programs, goals, body weight, and coach notes. It does not hold photos or chat history. To pause it, go to Settings > Data & Sync and turn off Back up to server. To remove the copy from our servers, tap Delete server copy… on the same screen. Without an account, there is no server copy.
How do I switch between kilograms and pounds?
Go to Settings > Workout > Units and choose kg or lb. Trainer shows all weights in your unit and converts your existing history for display.
How do I sync my workouts across my devices?
Trainer syncs through your private iCloud database. Sign in to the same Apple Account on each device, and make sure iCloud is on for Trainer in iOS Settings > (your name) > iCloud. We cannot read your iCloud data.
Does Trainer work with Apple Watch?
Yes. Install Trainer on your Apple Watch from the Watch app on your iPhone. You can start a workout on either device, log sets from your wrist, and see your heart rate. Your workout saves to Apple Health when you finish.
Why didn't I get a rest timer alert?
Trainer alerts you when rest ends, even if the app is in the background. The alert needs notification permission. Trainer asks for it when you tap Remind me after a workout. If you answered no, allow notifications in iOS Settings > Notifications > Trainer. Also check that a Focus mode does not silence them.
How does Trainer use Apple Health?
Apple Health is optional on iPhone. A workout that you start on Apple Watch needs it. Trainer saves your finished workouts and the body weight you log to Apple Health. It can read your workouts, steps, active energy, distance, heart rate, and body weight. You can turn on Sleep for Readiness in Settings > Apple Health so the coach eases off after a bad night. Your sleep figures never leave your iPhone. We never use Health data for advertising.
How do I change what Trainer can see in Apple Health?
Trainer asks the first time in Settings > Apple Health, when you finish a workout, when you open your own profile in the Social tab, or when you start a workout on Apple Watch. To change your answer later, open the Health app, tap your profile picture, choose Apps, then Trainer. You can turn each data type on or off. Trainer on iPhone keeps working without Apple Health.
Why does the AI coach ask me to sign in with Apple?
The coach runs on a server, so it needs an account to keep your requests secure and within limits. Sign in with Apple is the only sign-in. We never ask you for an API key or a password.
What does the AI coach send, and how do I turn it off?
The coach runs on Anthropic's Claude and xAI's Grok. Trainer asks for your permission first. It then sends the training details the coach needs: your training history, goals, profile, notes, summaries from Apple Health, and what you type or attach. To stop, turn off Use AI coach in Settings > AI Coach. Logging and progress keep working.
Is there a daily limit on the AI coach?
Yes. Each account has a daily limit of AI requests. The limit resets the next day. If you reach it, the coach tells you, and your workouts and logging keep working.
How do I resume a workout I left?
Open Trainer. If a workout is still in progress, the home screen shows a Session in progress card. Tap it to continue where you stopped. Your logged sets are kept even if the app closed or your iPhone restarted. If the workout started more than 6 hours ago, Trainer asks whether to save it as finished or discard it.
How do I export my data?
Go to Settings > Data & Sync > Export My Data. You get a JSON file with your exercises, routines, workouts, goals, programs, and body weight. Save it to Files or iCloud Drive.
What data leaves my iPhone?
Without an account, only anonymous usage events and crash summaries. When you sign in, Trainer keeps a backup copy of your training on our servers. You can pause or delete it in Settings > Data & Sync. The AI coach sends the training details it needs to Anthropic and xAI, after you give permission. Social posts and your coaching profile are stored on our servers. Read the Privacy Policy.
How do I report or block someone?
Open the person's profile, tap the … menu, and choose Report user or Block user. You can also report a single post, comment, profile photo, or challenge from its … menu. A blocked person cannot see your activity, and you do not see theirs. To unblock someone, go to Settings > Account & Social > Blocked accounts. We review every report within 24 hours, and we remove content and accounts that break the Terms of Use.
The AI coach gave me advice that seems wrong.
AI replies can be wrong. Trust your body and your judgment, and do not follow advice that feels unsafe. The coach is not medical advice. See our Terms of Use.
